Christians ordered to stop publishing news in Malaysia
| Jan 6, 2009 Asia
Tensions are escalating in Malaysia where government officials have ordered a Catholic newspaper to stop publishing its Malay language edition in an argument over use of the word "allah," and the newspaper is threatening legal action against the government.
According to the Malaysiakini.com news website, officials ordered the Catholic Herald to halt publication of its Malay language edition. The newspaper responded with the suggestion that there may be legal action against the government.
Although Malaysia ostensibly grants freedom of religion, there has been a long list of controversies related to the issue.
A number of Christian converts from Islam have been denied permission to change the religious designation on their government identity cards, and the government limited the release of the movie "The Passion of the Christ."

CYBERWAR: Israeli domain registration server hacked, bank websites re-directed

If you are not paying attention to what is happening in Israel with the escalating war between Israel and hamas, then administrators really need to. This is how cyber war is fought, and how information security is more important than bombs or guns.
The key to what is happening is how the internet infrastructure is being used to carry on not just a propaganda war, but how it is also being subverted by hackers to send people to sites that are propaganda based. The better part would be is if the entire domain structure (DNS) was hacked to deliver malware to unsuspecting computers, that would then engage in DOS/DDOS style attacks against key military or domestic services (Government, State, Emergency Response, 911 systems, SCADA systems) that are vital to the country keeping afloat during a war… Read More » it.toolbox.com

An Islamic group based on Morocco hacked into DomainTheNet's registration system server on Friday, effectively "highjacking" various prominent domain names, the likes of ynetnews.com and Bank Discount, and rerouting users to a page featuring anti-Israel messages DomainTheNet is a multinational registration service provider (RSP), which offers registration and site-hosting services. The attack is believed to be in retaliation to Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip. The attack resulted in some users being referred to the hostile webpage, while others were able to access the original websites, undisturbed. The group did not hack the actual websites.

In the midst of its Gaza operations, the IDF is entering yet another conflict zone: the Internet.
The Israeli army announced yesterday the creation of its own YouTube channel, through which it will disseminate footage of precision bombing operations in the Gaza Strip, as well as aid distribution and other footage of interest to the international community, One video shows Hamas Headquarters destroyed.
Below is snapshot of channel hosted on YouTube and a link to view IDF’s operations.
Some of the footage might be considered disturbing, such as one video that allegedly depicts men loading rockets onto a pickup truck, to be driven to the border and launched into Israel. The grainy, silent, black-and-white video was transmitted from a plane flying overhead. Moments after the men finish loading their cargo, they are hit by an IAF air strike.
Leibovich was not overly concerned. "The intelligent audience watching the footage will know that people killed did not have peaceful intentions toward Israel," she said. "I don't believe they'll be disturbed."

Israel turned the force of its punishing Gaza campaign toward Hamas field operatives on Monday, sending warplanes to bomb their houses in a sweep meant to tear at the roots of the militant organization.
Yet even with their senior leadership in hiding, the battered Islamic militants managed to fire dozens of rockets at southern Israel on Monday.
A tough-talking Israeli defense minister promised them a "war to the bitter end," as the three-day death toll in Israel's shock-and-awe offensive rose to 364.

How Israel led Hamas into false sense of security Carefully calculated maneuvers utilized by cabinet lulled Islamist group into arrogant calm ahead of airstrike offensive in bid to maintain element of surprise.
...."Hamas pulled its people out of hiding and resumed normal operations," said the sources. "It would seem that Hamas believes the Israeli media, and thought it had a few more days before Israel launched an operation… once the tactical opportunity presented itself, the prime minister called Barak and Livni to his home on Friday night and they made the decision."
