GROOVY undercover cops disguised as dance music lovers are crashing the party for drug-taking revellers at this summer's music festivals. The covert cops nabbed dozens of patrons for possessing ecstasy and other drugs at the Summerfieldayze festival on the Gold Coast at the weekend.
And they are warning the blitz will continue during upcoming music festivals like Good Vibrations and the Big Day Out.
Undercover and uniformed police charged 37 people with mostly drug offences during Summerfieldayze on the Southport Spit on Saturday. They also issued more than 100 liquor offence notices and evicted 16 patrons.
Gold Coast police superintendent Jim Keogh said police were not party-poopers but were determined to ensure the safety of patrons after a spate of drug overdoses at new year's dance parties in Melbourne.

Coogee Surf Life Saving Club secretary Jim Turney said.
Three Sydney beaches have been evacuated at different times today because of shark sightings. Hammerhead sharks were spotted off Maroubra, Coogee and Bronte beaches in the eastern suburbs by the Westpac Life Saver Helicopter.

Virtual weapons practice for nervous NSW cops
| Jan 4, 2009 Australia
New recruits to the New South Wales police force will soon be able to practice using guns at a virtual shooting range. Senior officers claim a lack of practice venues has led to a number of new members being scared of using their weapons.
But Shadow police minister Michael Gallacher says a virtual experience is not the answer.
"I hope we don't end up seeing trainee police using a Playstation to learn how to drive vehicles at high speed.![]()

The water turned red with blood as the shark carried the father of three away after the attack, just 25 feet from the beach at Port Kennedy, 20 miles south of the State capital, Perth. Witnesses on the beach told of seeing a 'flash of fin' but local man Luke Tubbs, who lives near the beach, described a horrific scene in which the shark could be seen with Mr Guest's body in its jaws.
While he did not witness the event personally, he said it had been described to him by another man who had run to his home to raise the alarm.
'He told me he just saw a big splash and then the shark roll over in the water with the guy - and then (he saw) no body or anything.
